Aim: to introduce the topic and read for specific information
• Ask Ss to look at the pictures and the headings. Then elicit what, if anything, Ss know about these inventions.
• Elicit various questions about them from Ss and write two of them on the board.
• Then give Ss time to read the text and see if they can answer them.

Suggested Answer Key
I know that reflecting telescopes allowed astronomers to see into space. I also know that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
Questions:
1 What were the first bicycles like? (They had one large wheel and one small one and were very dangerous.)
2 Who invented the ATM? (James Goodfellow)
