The Department of Antennas and Radio Transmitters (DART) was established in 1954 and attached to Taganrog Radio Engineering Institute on the College of Radio Engineering. It originally called the Department of Antennas and Radio Wave Propagation. Since 1978 to present day it has called the Department of Antennas and Radio Transmitters and for 20 years (to 1998) permanently was headed by Doctor of Science, Professor, the Honoured Scientist of Russian Federation Petrov Boris M.. Yukhanov Yuriy V., Doctor of Science, Professor, has been the department chair from 1998. From the foundation time to 1990 the DART graduated the broad specialists on the specialty "Radio Engineering" of the College of Radio Engineering. Since 1990 the DART has graduated the bachelors of science, masters and specialists (engineers) on the specialty 071500 - Radiophysics and Electronics, since 1993 on the specialty 201100- Radio Communication, Broadcasting and Television and since 2002 on the specialty 201700 - Electronic Warfare Equipment. It also takes part in the training of the specialists on the other radio engineering specialties. The DART has seven educational, two research laboratories and anechoic measuring box of 3 cm and 8 mm microwave ranges equipped with modern radiative, measuring and computer engineering. There are 23 teachers on the DART. All of them have academic degrees and academic statuses: 5 Doctors of Science, Professors. The Dr. of Eng. Sc., Prof. Petrov Boris M. awarded to honorary title the "Honoured Scientist of Russian Federation".

During its lifetime, the DART trained more then 50 candidates and 5 Dr. of Eng. Sc.
Five monographs were published by the teaching staff of the DART, also more then 1000 scientific papers in different publication, more then 100 inventions and more then 30 reports at the international research conferences and conferences with international participation were made.
Some graduates of the DART at present time are at the eminent leading position, and are gurus, whose major scientific achievements are acknowledged as in Russia and as abroad.
