Topic: blood buffer system
Exercise 1
Patient M., 54 years old, was admitted to the hospital in serious condition. Complains of general weakness, severe weight loss. In the last 5-6 days, after almost every meal, he feels pain in the epigastric region, accompanied by vomiting.
In the study of АBS (acid-base state) revealed:
pH art. blood = 7.55
pCO2 = 60 mm Hg. Art.
SB = 50 mmol / L
BE = 18 mmol / l
Make a conclusion about the nature of the violation of the CBS. What is the possible reason for the violation of CBS in this patient? What is the reason for the increase in pCO2.
Conclusion: Decompensated relative metabolic alkalosis. The reason may be related to the loss of chloride during vomiting. ↑ pCO2 is due to hypoventilation.
