Comparison of Tikamuli and Jenticha Synergy

Advantages of Tikamuli

Disadvantages of Tikamuli

All graphemes correspond with Devanagari, which can ease the adaptation of Nepali derivatives with characteristics unusual for Sunuwar.

As well as Devanagari, some graphemes that can be written as combinations when necessary do not exist in Sunuwar, like aspirated chha छ or gha घ.

Sentences look shorter and more compact, as it follows the rules of an abugida where the vowels do not take up a lot of space and are put above letters as diacritics.

Unnecessary clarifications could have been avoided in certain places. The existence of diacritics for exceptionally rare extra long vowels is followed by complete abscence of a nasalisation symbol.

It is overall more pleasant to look at, as survey results suggest. Compared to Jenticha, its graphemes are less blocky and look more like elegant handwriting.

The script itself looks massive, heavy and overly complicated to read and learn, accordingly, for those who have not interacted with abugidas.

Tikamuli also has a diacritic for the approximant /ɭ/.

When reading, it appears harder to distinguish it from the “tail” mark indicating aspiration.
