| Answer the following questions:
1) Where is Bashkortostan situated in? 2) How many nationalities live in the republic? 3) What natural resources are there in our republic? 4) What industry is especially developed in Bashkortostan? 5) What kind of products does the agriculture of Bashkortostan produce? 6) What countries are the goods of our republic sent to? 7) How many higher schools are there in our republic? Name them. VIII. The City of Ufa Ufa is the capital city of the Republic of Bashkortostan. Ufa was founded as a fortress in 1574. In 1588 Ufa was granted a town status and became Bashkiria's administrative centre. In 1922 Ufa became the capital of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic within the Russian Federation. The city is located at the confluence of the Belaya and Ufa rivers. But you can see 3 rivers in Ufa: the Belaya, the Ufa and the Dyoma rivers. One can enjoy the unique beauty of nature, mountains, wonderful lowlands, steppe areas and thick wild forests. Ufa is a big and old city with population over 1 million. The city is very beautiful. There are a lot of mosques and churches here. The visit card of the city is the fountain “Seven girls” with amazing night illumination. Two Ferris wheels were built in Ufa over the past few years: 48 meter “Seventh heaven” and 60 meter “Iremel”. One can enjoy great views of the city and surrounding forests. There are monuments to famous people in every city. But in our city there is also a monument to a janitor. I like it because it reminds people that every useful job deserves respect, that you don’t have to be famous to do good. There are many theaters and museums in Ufa. In the historical centre of the city you can find the Bashkir State Opera and Ballet House, the Bashkir National Drama House, the State Art Gallery named after Nesterov, the National Museum. Every tourist can find something interesting for him. We even have underground caves and lemonarium. A lot of famous people were born and lived in our city: well-known writers such as S.Aksakov, M. Karim, S. Dovlatov, L. Ulitskaya, M. Chvanov; painters - M. Nesterov, A.Tulkin, B. Domashnikov; musicians - V.Spivakov, Ildar and Askar Abdrazakovy, O. Kireyev, U. Shevchuk; popular singers – Zemfira, A.Gubin; a well-known ballet-dancer Rudolf Nureyev and others. The capital boasts 11 higher educational establishments with five universities among them; active research is being conducted by the Ufa Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and by the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan. жүктеу/скачать 0.59 Mb.
