Abstract. In this article, one of the current topics of modern STEM education is considered, the issue of teaching program- ming in the general education school. On the example of countries such as Great Britain, Finland, South Korea, Estonia, France, Australia, the prerequisites are considered, initiating the need to teach children the basics of programming at school. To under- stand the current state of teaching programming in schools, the author conducted a study with the participation of high school students and other subjects of the educational process in the school: parents, teachers, and IT specialists, since various software and hardware are used in programming training. In the article some results of this research are presented, in particular the re- sults of the study on the attitude of students, parents, teachers and IT specialists to the issue of teaching programming in school.
