The research of the monument of history of industry
and technical equipment in Donbas: Staropetrovskoye
Iron Foundry

Abstract
The article is devoted to the history of an attempt to build an experimental iron foundry in the
south of the Russian Empire at the late 1850s. The plant location was on the territory of the present
Donetsk region, in the area of the modern town of Yenakiyevо. Properly speaking, the emergence
of Yenakiyevо town indirectly connected with the construction of this plant. The article traces the
history of research
of Staropetrovskoye plant, up to the archaeological excavations conducted in
2008 to clarify the location of the object. Taking into account the relatively recent existence of the
archaeological monument under investigation, an interesting detail of exploration was the
combination of archaeological methods of research with oral tradition. Exploration of
Staropetrovskoye Ironworks was the first example of the development of industrial archaeology in
Donbas.

Аннотация
Статья посвящена истории попытки построить на
юге Российской империи
экспериментальный чугунолитейный завод в конце 50-х гг. XIX в. Местоположение завода
оказалось на территории нынешней Донецкой области, в районе современного г. Енакиева.
Собственно, появление города Енакиева опосредствовано
связано с сооружением этого
завода. В статье прослежена история изучения Старопетровского завода, вплоть до
археологических раскопок, проведенных в 2008 г. с целью уточнения вопросов, связанных с

расположением объекта. Учитывая относительно недавнее
время бытования изучаемого
археологического памятника, интересной деталью исследования явилось сочетание
археологических
методов
исследования
с
устной
традицией.
Исследования
Старопетровского
чугунолитейного
завода
стало
первым
примером
развития
индустриальной археологии в Донбассе.
