Breeding resistant varieties of wheat provides production stability, especially, in epiphytotic
years, and also ensures quality, price and sanitary-epidemiological safety of harvest. That is why the
researches are always important on growing disease resistant and high-quality varieties of wheat.
Research materials and methods. The study was conducted in the artificial epidemic area of
the Kazakh Research Institute of Agriculture and Plant Growing LLP in Almalybak village near
Almaty. 25 domestic winter wheat varieties and 23 Bt-isogenic lines, approved for sowing in wheat
growing regions of Kazakhstan, were used as research material, and Krasnovodopadskaya 25 was
selected as a control variety nonresistant to common bunt.
As a causative agent of the disease, spores of common bunt (Tilletia caries (DC.) Tul.) were
collected from wheat growing areas of Almaty region. One of the most effective methods of
contamination of wheat with black moth spores was the method of Borggard-Anpilogova [24], which
is infested a few days before sowing. Usually 100 seeds of each variety are taken for inoculation and
prepared in a wide test tube, flask or paper bag. Preparation of inoculum consists of grinding wheat
grains with severe common bunt and passing them through a fine sieve. The finished inoculum is
placed in a container with seeds in a ratio of 1: 100. Thoroughly mix the seeds for 2-3 minutes, then
sow the inoculated seeds.
In assessing the contamination of wheat samples with Tilletia caries (DC.) Tul spores V.I.
Krivchenko scale was used [25].
It is based on the method:
0 - highly resistant, no signs of contamination;
1 - resistant, infection rate does not exceed 10%;
2 – medium soft, infestation rate does not exceed 25%;
3 - soft, infection rate does not exceed 50%;
4 - highly soft, infection rate more than 50%.
The biomass index of plants (NDVI – Normalized Difference Vegetative Index) was measured
using the Green Seeker (Trimble Navigation Limited, USA) device [26].
Wheat was harvested when ripe and structural analysis was carried out. Statistical data
processing was calculated in Excel and MiniTAB 17 [27,28].
