ANNOTATION OF THE DOCTORAL THESIS 
 
The aim of the research is to reflect the history of the study of Uzbek folklore 
in the early 20th century in the example of Abdurauf Fitrat, Gozi Olim Yunusov 
and Elbek, and identify their contribution to the formation and theoretical 
development of Uzbek folklore. 
The object of the research is the folklore articles, collections, scientific and 
methodical works of Abdurauf Fitrat, Gozi Olim Yunusov and Elbek. Works of 
Fitrat and Elbek were also addressed in necessary cases. 
The scientific novelty of the research is as follows: 
scientific-practical trends of Uzbek folklore study at the beginning of the 
20th century, its history were described; 
the data on the social factors that were basis for the creation of Uzbek 
folklore during this period, the circles and organizations, the first folklorists 
working with the impression of this, and their folklore collectors were identified 
and summarized; 
the principles and features of recording of the Uzbek folklore at the 
beginning of XX century were shown; 
the folklorists who were the victims of repression particularly, Abdurauf 
Fitrat, Gozi Olim Yunusov and Elbek's contribution to the development of science, 
their role in the development of Uzbek folklore and the significance of scientific 
and theoretical views were evaluated; 
The place and the role of folklorisms of the prosaic, poetic and dramatic 
works of Abdurauf Fitrat and Elbek in the literary development of Uzbek literature 
were proved; 
Scientific-theoretical concepts about written literature in the literary 
development of Uzbek literature at the beginning of XX century and folklore 
relations were enriched.
