illustrate this relation by analyzing the results of a case study conducted among different students
who were enrolled in French language courses (levels I-III) during the winter trimestre of 2015
in
a public university in Mexico, namely the Metropolitan Autonomous University, Campus
Xochimilco, Mexico City. The data in question were obtained
by applying questionnaires
focused primarily on such variables as attitudes, motivation, and investment. The information on
these components of the target language acquisition has helped us to reveal those factors that
undermined reaching the degree of competence in French that the learners would like to gain in
conformity to their real linguistic and communicative needs. The final objective of our research
is to contribute to the modification of the contents and objectives of the current language
teaching curricula in order to improve the process of the academic and professional training of
the university students.
