Письмо Генерального секретаря от 23 марта 2001 года
на имя Председателя Совета Безопасности
Имею честь сослаться на резолюцию 1343 (2001) по Либерии, принятую Советом Безопасности 7 марта 2001 года. В пункте 19 этой резолюции Совет просил меня учредить после консультаций с Комитетом Совета Безопасности, учрежденным резолюцией 1343 (2001), в течение одного месяца с даты принятия этой резолюции, на период в шесть месяцев Группу экспертов, в частности, для расследования любых нарушений мер, введенных в соответствии с пунктами 5 7 этой резолюции; сбора любой информации о выполнении правительством Либерии требований, изложенных в пункте 2 этой резолюции, и проведения дальнейшего расследования возможных связей между эксплуатацией природных ресурсов и другими формами экономической деятельности в Либерии и разжиганием конфликта в Сьерра-Леоне и соседних странах, в частности теми областями, которые освещены в докладе Группы экспертов, учрежденной резолюцией 1306 (2000) (см. S/2000/1195).
В соответствии с этим, после консультаций с Комитетом и с учетом требований, изложенных в вышеупомянутой резолюции, в том числе о том, чтобы эта группа, насколько это возможно и целесообразно, использовала опыт членов Группы экспертов, учрежденной резолюцией 1306 (2000), я хотел бы информировать Вас о том, что мною назначены пять экспертов:
