COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF TEACHING
EFFECTIVENESS BY NATIVE AND NON-NATIVE
ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS

The paper dwells on a topical issue of choosing a language instruc-
tor for efficient foreign language teaching. The common tendency
to favour a native speaker as a more preferable teacher does not
always look reasonable since, according to the analysis performed,
English- speaking instructors may disregard some required teach-
ing methods emphasizing their language authenticity. At the same
time, a non-native instructor who has obtained sufficient occupa-
tional training, necessary teaching skills and personal experience of
acquiring another language is able to teach English, for instance, up
to the level of a lingua franca for intercultural communication. The
comparison carried out by the author of the article offers a number
of aspects to consider regarding the question at hand and draws
attention to both advantages and drawbacks of the two groups of
language instructors.
